Art Shows at Hairetics Salon

Transformation: An Art Show
November 4 – December 2017

This autumn Hairetics Salon is exploring the theme of Transformation through art. We are pleased to share the works of 6 different artist to give you their wide interpretations of the theme. From delicate wood etchings, fascinating paintings & collages, handcrafted wearable talismans intended to transmute, and stunning photography, we have something to enthrall everyone.

As autumn approaches, we celebrate the changes in nature and ourselves with the Transformation opening party on November 4th from 8pm-10pm. The veil between worlds grows thin and subtle shifts all around us hint at the renewal to come as we peruse the exhibit, nibbling on treats and imbibing spirits.

Femme: A Collective Perspective
July 8 – September 2017Alice Koswara: Femme

Art from 20 participating artists, on-site watercolor by Alice Koswara (her painting of a woman’s face seen here), a glam station, beautiful people both inside and out, wine, and femme inspired treats.

Dear __________,

We regret to inform you that your out-dated stereotypical behavior toward the maternal sex will not be acknowledged by intelligent humans. Instead we will provide our feelings on this subject:

Femme: A Collective Perspective

Femme {used as n., v., adj.} does not reinforce the gender binary—instead it works both within and without it. A femme-identified person does not always dress or act “traditionally feminine” (aesthetics///movement). The femme identity is associated with behaviors, interactions and personal views, political, cultural or otherwise.

Opening party Saturday, July | 7:30pm – 9:30 pm

We will feature art in many forms — many works for purchase with partial proceeds going to the Femme Charity of Choice (TBD).

Hairetics Salon and Haunted Manor Boutique present the delightfully strange art of Daniel Skellington
October 4 – December 31, 2016

Daniel Skellington

Daniel Skellington suffers from artistic compulsions. His muses speak in tongues, sometimes they even sing.
His inspiration is a Frankenstein’s Monster stitched from music, the dark side of Disney, the macabre, Tim Burton, & Halloween.
He works in whatever is nearby, mostly that is digital & acrylic paint, occasionally photography & mixed media.

Tiffany Star Illustration
April 2016 – June 2016

Tiffany Star
Tiffany Star Illustration is a paradox of cute and curiousness. Often painted with accents of frosting, lace, and all things magical!

Although Tiffany’s paintings may often venture over to the dark side, her work always maintains its ever so important cute undertones! This particular series was painted with the theme of farewells and shameless sweet wishes.

Received BFA in Illustration at California College of the Arts

Wasabi Gonzalez – Muñecas
October 2015 – December 2015

Muñecas de los Muertos

Wasabi Gonzalez’s interest in dolls began at age 7. A favorite past-time was to elegantly dress a Barbie doll, place her in a Tonka truck and set her ablaze; directly followed by reconstructive surgery, a wedding and a funeral.

I was also transfixed by Star Wars. My parents introduced me to the Kenner action figures with the hope that they would replace my obsession with Barbie and her stylish friends. Instead a love triangle ensued between Han Solo, Princess Leia and Barbie’s friend Teresa.

Through the years music, fashion and death began to fascinate me; I found comfort in the fantastic and macabre. All of these interests are combined in my latest efforts. I have been procuring dolls and recreating them as Muñecas de los Muertos paying tribute to personalities and time periods that connote to inspire me.

March 2015 – June 2015

Stitchmind is a Bay Area artist who creates work focusing on duality and emotional balance through contemporary character design.  His work has been displayed and sold internationally across multiple venues for several years alongside handmade merchandising and toy making.  The artwork take inspiration from lowbrow and cartooning art, Japanese comics, and Gothic subcultures and themes. Pieces are created using silkscreen printmaking methods or a stencil/sticker method of layering sheets of cut vinyl on top of plates of glass, acrylic, or PVC board.

November 2014 – January 2015

Corviid (Raven) began working as a self-taught artist in the Bay Area in 2006 after obtaining degrees in Philosophy and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology in Tucson, Arizona.  If one had to sum up her artistic style, one might call it “Surreal Macabre.”  Her works contain elements of anatomy, natural history, the macabre, sacred and symbolic geometry, architecture and ornamentation.  Because of a life-long interest and scholarly background in philosophy, every work is given a strong philosophical undertone.  Through her art, she touches on issues of metaphysics, existentialism, death, mathematical archetypes, duality (the fact and the illusion), emotion, and our relationship as humans to other organisms, nature, and the universe.  Similarly with a fascination and background in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, her work is influenced by natural forms and scientific illustrative styles throughout history.  She works in a wide variety of mediums; tending to move forward into uncharted territory, collecting mediums and techniques as she goes and combining them in novel ways in each new work.
